A few months ago the Marine Corps League magazine "SEMPER FI" requested photos of the Hayward 9/11 Memorial from Michael L. Emerson (pictured front cover, left side) who is a life Member of the Marine Corps League. Emerson designed and managed the building of the Memorial. It was Dedicated on Memorial Day, Monday, 30 May 2016. They specifically requested a photo of Emerson and other U.S. Marines with the Marine Corps League bench at the Hayward 9/11 Memorial. One of the photos was used on the FRONT COVER of the Fall 2016 SEMPER FI magazine. Details are in image #2. This is thrilling since this is the official magazine of the Marine Corps League and will be mailed out all over the USA and the World. October 2016.

- 15th ANNIVERSARY YEAR 9/11 OBSERVANCE -
|
Photos of a small get together at the Hayward 9/11 Memorial on 11 Sept 2016 at 1PM. This is the FIRST 9/11 observance held at the NEW Hayward 9/11 Memorial. We spoke about our experiences on 9/11/2001 and after. We had patriotic Civilians, Veterans, Government Officials and even the Mayor of Hayward attend. It was a special day and a beautiful and respectful ceremony that ended with 15 seconds of silence (one second for each year) and TAPS. Downtown Hayward, CA on Sunday, 11 September 2016.

- DEDICATION OF THE HAYWARD 9/11 MEMORIAL -
|
The Hayward 9/11 Memorial was completed and dedicated in Hayward, California. The event was put on and MCed by Michael L. Emerson who is the Founder, Designer, and Build Manager of the Memorial, with the support of the City of Hayward. The Memorial was built to Honor and Remember the Heroes of 9/11, Hayward Military KIA (Killed In Action) Veterans, and Hayward First Responders who died in the line of duty. We had about 400 people in attendance. Thank you to all who supported and donated to the Memorial. Memorial Day, Monday, 30 May 2016.

- INSTALLING THE 5 BLACK GRANITE PIECES -
|
MSI delivered the last 5 black granite stones (4 monoliths and 1 center name topper stone). With the help of Hatton Crane and their crew, Larry Lepore, Brian Morrison and his crew, Chad and the MSI's crew, donor Ross Bigler, and Michael L. Emerson we glued in the mounting stainless steel dowel rods, off loaded the granite and installed it all. We also installed the new 25 foot black flag pole with an eagle topper. Photos of the cutting and polishing of the 4 Memorial's monoliths that are being made in India. They are also supplying us 1 matching center name stone topper. The granite is all looking good. We had the formal ground breaking at the Memorial site. We had Mayor Halliday and the City Council and many from City Staff attend. Sheriff Ahern and many officers from the Sheriff's office. The Salvation Army. The VFW. The American Legion. AMVETS and AMVETS Honor Guard. BART Director John McPartland, the mother and sister of 9/11 hero/victim Wanda Green and many local citizens. And importantly many of the Contractors who will build the Memorial. Speakers where: Michael L. Emerson, Mayor Barbara Halliday, Bart Director John McPartland, and General Contractor Brian Morrison. TV stations ABC, CBS, and NBC also a local radio station and a Chinese film crew who all filmed and interviewed people, later in the evening and night the event was broadcast several times on the TV news. Photos after the City of Hayward's landscaping crew removed the grass sod and sprinklers to recycle and use at another Hayward location. The Memorial will be built in the middle of the dirt area, the excavation of the site will be done next week after the security fence is installed on Monday, 27 July 2015. - DELIVERY OF THE RED GRANITE -

Today we received the delivery of the 7 donated pieces of Wausau Red Granite from Anderson Brothers & Johnson / Michels Corp. out of Wausau, Wisconsin. They donated all of the granite and the "flaming" of the granite - Thank you Moe, Tom and their crew. We used Dakota Valley Shipping out of Milbank, South Dakota who gave us a reduced price to ship it all to us here in Hayward, CA - Thank you Daryl and his crew. It was delivered to Art's Monument Company in Hayward, CA who offloaded it and will store, engrave and deliver it to us at the Memorial site when we need it - Thank you Andrew and Sam. The Hayward Police Officers Association presented a $2,500 donation check to Michael L. Emerson at the AMVETS May 2015 monthly Post meeting to help to pay to build the Hayward 9/11 Memorial in downtown Hayward, CA at the corner of Mission Blvd and D Streets. The Memorial will Honor and Remember the Heroes of 9/11 and also the City of Hayward's First Responders. The names of Hayward's Police and Firefighters who have died in the line of duty will be listed and engraved forever on the granite Memorial.

- HAYWARD POLICE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION CRAB FEED -

Went to the Hayward Police Officers Association Charity Crab Feed at the Hayward Veterans Memorial Building to support our City's Police. While there, they allowed the Hayward City Council and I to introduce and give information about collecting donations for the Hayward 9/11 Memorial. We explained that the Memorial is also to honor and remember the First Responders (Police & Fire) of the City of Hayward. We told those in attendance they can sponsor to donate for a concrete brick pavers to help us with funds to build the Memorial. We passed out brick pavers donation flyers to those who were interested. The crab was delicious. Saturday, 21 February 2015.

- HAYWARD 9/11 MEMORIAL CANDLELIGHT VIGIL -

Hayward 9/11 Memorial supporters participated in our first official public awareness and fundraiser event. The Mayor and all of the City Council and some Staff members of the City of Hayward attended and participated. We also had several other local politicians and community leaders attend. The AMVETS Hayward Post 911 Honor Guard posted the colors and other AMVETS members also attended. And very importantly many local citizens also attended and participated. We collected $2,650 in donations that night, and a local business person matched the donations for a total of $5,300. We have already collected about 75% of the needed funds and materials, but we still need about $50,000 more. Hayward, California. Thursday, 11 Sept 2014.
